THE QUARTER: Price increases and lower taxes helped brewer Molson Coors Brewing Co. post a 27 percent increase in second-quarter net income as revenue rose. But volume slipped 0.7 percent on weakness in the U.S.
THE MARKETS: Revenue has been weak in Britain and Canada, but volume increased in both markets. In the U.S., sales to retailers fell 2.4 percent.
THE SAVINGS: The MillerCoors joint venture achieved more than $72 million in savings and other cuts in the quarter. So far the venture has saved $481 million since it began in July 2008.
