A store in the heart of the Belmar shopping center was robbed Monday morning by a man wielding a silver revolver.
Steve Davis, spokesman for the Lakewood Police Department, said the robbery was reported at 11:26 a.m. at GameStop, 7281 W. Alaska Drive.
Alaska Drive is one of the main thoroughfares in the shopping district.
According to Davis, Lakewood police agents arrived at the store to find the manager bound by zip-ties in a back room.
The manager told investigators the man came in while two kids were looking at merchandise. When the children left, the man approached the manager and asked to see various items in the store.
As the manager was assisting the suspect, the suspect made a quick cellphone call, then produced a silver revolver and pointed it at the manager, who was the only employee in the store.
He demanded all the cash in the register, which was placed in a plastic shopping bag. The man also took two PlayStation 3 game systems valued at $600.
The suspect then made the manager go to a back room, forced him to his knees and bound him with zip-ties.
In the backroom, the suspect emptied the manager’s backpack and placed the two PlayStation 3 game systems in the backpack along with the money.
The manager said the robber told him he would be back but the door to the office closed, locking it and making it impossible for the robber to return.
Despite having his hands zip-tied, Davis said the manager was able to reach a phone in the back office and call police.
Surveillance video showed a white GMC Yukon leaving the area.
Davis said the suspect is described as being a Hispanic male, about 25 years old, standing 5 feet 7 inches tall. He was wearing white baggy jeans, a large blue and white plaid shirt and white sunglasses with jewels on the frames.
