The Gilpin County Sheriff’s Office said it was trying to determine the identity and number of victims in the crash of a plane Wednesday near Rollins Pass Road in the Arapaho National Forest.

About 10 p.m., a sheriff’s spokeswoman said the condition of the burned wreckage made it impossible to immediately identify the aircraft and the number of occupants. The plane was a single-engine two-seater.

Smoke from the crash was reported about 12:30 p.m., coming midway between Nederland and Winter Park.
