Officials from RTD and the Union Pacific Railroad signed documents Wednesday finalizing the $78 million sale by UP of railroad property the Regional Transportation District needs for construction of its East Corridor, Gold Line and West Corridor train lines. The rail lines are part of RTD’s FasTracks program.
Last year, the transit agency spent $118 million to buy UP property for RTD’s proposed North Metro commuter-rail line from downtown Denver to north Adams County.
RTD currently does not have the money to build the North Metro line, which is expected to cost $977 million. It is one of a number of unfunded FasTracks rail lines.
