OAKLAND, Calif. — Sarah Shourd, one of three American hikers who has been in an Iranian prison for the past year, has discovered a lump in her breast, and her mother has asked the United Nations to urgently intervene so the woman can receive proper medical treatment.
Shourd, 31, was arrested with two hiking companions July 31, 2009, near the Iran-Iraq border by Iranian police who said the three had crossed illegally into Iran.
