BOSTON — Red Sox first baseman Kevin Youkilis is scheduled to have season-ending surgery for a torn muscle in his right thumb today.
Youkilis is hitting .307 with 19 homers and 62 RBIs.
Strasburg ready to return
PHOENIX — Nationals rookie Stephen Strasburg made it through his simulated game without any problems and appears ready to rejoin the rotation Tuesday against Florida.
The right-hander threw 43 pitches and reported no stiffness in the shoulder that sent him to the disabled list last week.

The Royals designated outfielder Jose Guillen, who leads the team with 62 RBIs and 16 homer, for assignment and recalled right-hander Philip Humber from Triple-A Omaha.
