A jury has found a man guilty of vehicular homicide for an accident he caused a year ago while racing his 1996 Jeep Cherokee in Aurora.

The accident happened around 10 p.m. on July 16, 2009 when Benny Gora Sitinjak, 36, was racing Jose Hernandez-Castellanos, 28, who was driving a Pontaic G8.

The men did not know each other.

Investigators said Sitinjak was driving at least 73 mph when he attempted to turn at the intersection of East Yale Avenue and South Peoria Street but instead collided with a 1981 Camaro, killing Walter Oleksinski, 63.

The posted speed limit in that zone was 40 mph.

Sitinjak was convicted of one felony count of vehicular homicide, one count of speed contest, and one count of reckless driving.
