Denver sportswriter Rick Reilly is back from running with the bulls in Pamplona, Spainand not a minute too soon. He didn’t get gored or trampled, but he took some heat on the Web for hitting a bull with a newspaper.

His story on covers the adventure, which he promises never to do again.

His aim at the running was to survive, get a story, and swat the backside of a bull with a newspaper. He succeeded at all these endeavors — to the chagrin of some bloggers out there.

Yahoo NFL columnist Charles Robinson went nutso on Reilly, tweeting “You should never swat the Bulls w/a newspaper. It causes them 2 get distracted & go after runners. Rick Reilly should have known that . . . I am beyond (mad) about this Rick Reilly running with the bulls piece. He endangered other runners. He’s why people die. Total idiot.”

chimed in with some animal-rights issues. And a reader pointed out, “Now we have reporters reporting on the reporting of other reporters.” Add one more with me. Reilly did not return calls Friday. At least he was out doing something.

David does fiction.

There are people who think David Sedaris always writes fiction — that his short, personal and very funny essays are exaggeration as much as storytelling.

But there is no doubt that his next book — “Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk: A Modest Bestiary” — is a work of fiction. The collection of animal fables is due in September.

Sedaris will be at the Boulder Theater on Oct. 26, a small venue for this star. Tix on sale now at or 303-786-7030.
