With the new airline baggage-handling fees, shipping your luggage, especially if it’s more than 50 pounds, can be cheaper than carrying it to the airport.
You can do it three ways. Ship your suitcase with a label on it. Ship a suitcase inside of a box. Or skip the suitcase and pack your clothes directly in a special luggage box that UPS recently introduced.
The math for an oversize or overweight bag from Chicago to Florida could go like this: United Airlines would charge a $25 checked-baggage fee and $100 overweight fee each way.
The round trip via UPS would be $106, assuming you reuse the luggage box for the return trip.
