Getting your player ready...

The battered Broncos dialed things back some Sunday as the team canceled its on-field workout – it had been scheduled from 1:15 p.m. to 3:15 p.m. – at their Dove Valley complex.

The players were to be in meetings until mid-afternoon before being dismissed.

The Broncos players get their first full day off of training camp Monday before returning to the practice field Tuesday afternoon.

The team had one of its most physical practices of this training camp Saturday night in Invesco Field at Mile High, a workout that included a live goal-line period, and an already long list of injured players.

A total of football wounded that includes running backs Knowshon Moreno (hamstring) and Correll Buckhalter (neck/back), both injured on the first day of training camp, to go with guard Chris Kuper (ankle) and linebacker Jarvis Moss (fractured hand) who were injured this past week.

Linebacker Elvis Dumervil is expected to miss much or all of the season after tearing his pectoral muscle this past week as well. Safety Brian Dawkins has been limited of late with what appears to be a right ankle injury and linebacker D.J. Williams, who has had shoulder and knee surgeries previously in his career, has practiced little since camp opened.

And in Saturday night’s work at Invesco, wide receivers Demaryius Thomas (foot) and Eric Decker (ankle) were added to the growing list. Both were being evaluated further on Sunday.

Thomas’ injury was of particular concern since it was his left foot, the same foot he fractured in a pre-draft workout earlier this year. Initially Thomas’ injury was believed to involve scar tissue in the foot that was a result of the earlier injury as well as the surgery to repair it.

Following the stadium practice head coach Josh McDaniels said; “it was a concern because it was the same foot.”

Defensive lineman Justin Bannan and linebacker Spencer Larsen were excused from Saturday night’s practice for personal reasons.

The Broncos’ workout on Tuesday — from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. — is open to the public.
