DOUGLAS COUNTY — A sheriff’s deputy was shot while responding to a call at 2 a.m. Sunday and returned fire, injuring a suspect.
Deputies were responding to a felony menacing incident involving a gun in the 2000 block of Colorado 83 in Franktown, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
Before deputies arrived, they spotted the suspect’s car near Bayou Gulch Road and Colorado 83. When deputies stopped the vehicle, one deputy was shot.
The deputy returned fire, hitting the suspect, according to the sheriff’s office.
The deputy was treated at a hospital and released. The suspect was listed in critical condition. Neither was identified Sunday.
An investigation of the incident is ongoing, and the deputy involved has been placed on paid administrative leave, as is standard practice, the sheriff’s office said.
