Increases in passenger traffic at the Durango-La Plata County Airport are putting a strain on the facility, though the master plan will address those challenges, said aviation director Ron Dent.
July was a record month, Dent said, with 17,206 passengers boarding commercial airlines, beating the previous record of 16,023 set in July 2008.
Through the end of July, the airport recorded 91,027 boardings, an increase of 13.2 percent over July 2009. The airport is on track to handle more than 340,000 passengers this year, Dent said.
