Miguel Olivo interrupted a recent Carlos Gonzalez interview by saying, “This guy knew me when I could hit.” It’s been a tough month for Olivo, who entered Tuesday with a .151 average in 53 at-bats since the all-star break. Olivo rebounded slightly, singling in the fifth inning and throwing out his first runner stealing since Aug. 3.
Smith absent.
Outfielder Seth Smith, who fouled a ball off his right shin Saturday, did not start again. He’s hitless on the Rockies’ road trip and is 0-for-12 over his last seven games.
Beltran rests.
Mets center fielder Carlos Beltran did not start as a concession to his knee issues and a horrible road trip offensively (3-for-22, two RBIs). Beltran pinch hit in the seventh inning and was intentionally walked to set up a potential double play.
