A man trying to buy cigarettes at a Lakewood convenience store early Sunday assaulted a female companion and then assaulted the store clerk who called police.

The couple left together in a gray or silver sedan from the 7-Eleven at 5200 West Colfax Ave.. Lakewood police today asked for the public’s health in identifying and locating them.

The clerk initially refused to sell the cigarettes to the man, who soon returned with the woman to buy the cigarettes for him. While at the counter, the man head-butted the woman in the face.

As the pair left the store, the clerk called police, which prompted the man to punch the store clerk, police said.

The man was described as Hispanic, in his early 20s, about 5 feet, 9 inches tall with a skinny build. He had a goatee. The woman was Hispanic, about 5 feet, 5 inches tall with a slender build.

The clerk told police the man called the woman his “wife” and his “old lady.”

Anyone with information about the couple can call Lakewood Police Department at 303-987-7111.
