GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Republican state lawmaker Scott Tipton has won a rematch against U.S. Rep. John Salazar in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District.
Tipton defeated Steamboat Springs resident Bob McConnell in Tuesday’s GOP primary. McConnell, a self-described “recovering lawyer,” had been endorsed by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
Salazar had no primary opposition. He’s seeking a fourth term representing Colorado’s largest district.
Tipton unsuccessfully challenged Salazar in 2006. He was elected to the state House in 2008.
With 68 percent of the projected vote counted, Tipton led McConnell 56-44 percent.
