GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—Crews have contained 70 percent of a 77-acre wildfire burning near ranch buildings and oil and gas wells in western Colorado.
About 120 firefighters are at the fire 25 miles northwest of Grand Junction. Fire mangers said the blaze wasn’t an immediate threat Friday to the well pads or buildings.
Federal officials say lightning started the fire Thursday and winds quickly spread the flames among the pinon-juniper trees.
The U.S. Bureau of Land Management says warmer, drier weather in the area has increased the fire danger.
