BOULDER, Colo.—Boulder County officials are shrugging off a pitch by an animal rights group to pay for road work in exchange for advertising featuring the silhouette of a curvaceous woman encouraging people to become vegans.

County Transportation Director George Gerstle says he doesn’t believe People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals are serious about the proposal they sent him this week. The county is trying to figure out how to fund a multimillion effort to resurface 150 miles in residential neighborhoods in unincorporated Boulder County.

PETA says they can help cover the cost if they can put their advertising over the repaved roads. The ad would say, “Word on the Street: Go Vegan! PETA.”

PETA representatives say they are serious about their offer.
