“WILD WEST 2.0: HOW TO PROTECT AND RESTORE YOUR ONLINE REPUTATION ON THE UNTAMED SOCIAL FRONTIER” Michael Fertik and David Thompson, Amacom, 288 pages, $24.95

The online world can be a dangerous place, according to Fertik and Thompson, so they use the metaphor of the Wild West to convey the lawless, anarchic environment.

They spend most of the book detailing the ways that one’s online reputation can be sullied or impugned by malicious or mistaken perpetrators. Companies and other organizations can also be the victims of these attacks.

This pair of would-be Texas Rangers eventually gets into ways for individuals, and large and small businesses, to defend and protect against attacks. Not coincidentally, the two lead a company that provides proactive and prophylactic measures against these types of incursions.

They also (surprise!) offer a discount to their readers, though they thankfully eschew the hard sell herein and provide plenty of low- or no-cost tactics to deal with the problem. The book is a worthwhile addition to the online marketing library and a solid reference if one’s presumably good name and reputation are already under attack.
