DURANGO, Colo.—A memorial service is being held for a Durango dentist who was among 10 medical volunteers killed in Afghanistan Aug. 5.

The memorial service for 51-year-old Dr. Thomas Grams is scheduled for Saturday afternoon at the Smiley Building Auditorium in Durango. Grams gave up his practice about four years ago to help poor children in Afghanistan, India and Nepal.

His family says Grams will be buried in his hometown of Park Rapids, Minn.

Grams was among a team of doctors gunned down by Taliban fighters in the remote Parun valley of Nuristan province, about 160 miles north of Kabul.
