One person was killed and another suffered head injuries after an SUV tumbled down a steep 180-foot embankment in Mesa County last night.
Authorities had to use special equipment to pry the crumbled vehicle open and free a third crash victim following the one-vehicle accident around 7:36 p.m. Friday.
The accident happened in a rocky canyon on Divide Road or Highway 141 near Whitewater, said Lisa McCammon, spokeswoman for the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office.
The name of the dead accident victim or their other two injured persons have not been released. The conditions of the two injured people have not been released.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
Whitewater is about nine miles southeast of Grand Junction.
