One person was killed and another suffered head injuries Friday after an SUV tumbled down a steep, 180-foot embankment in Mesa County.
Authorities had to use special equipment to pry the crumbled vehicle open and free a third crash victim following the one-vehicle accident about 7:36 p.m.
The accident happened in a rocky canyon on Divide Road, or Colorado 141, near Whitewater, said Lisa McCammon, spokeswoman for the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office.
The names of the person who was killed and the injured persons have not been released.
