PETERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Colo.—The U.S. Northern Command has delivered 150,000 sets of lightweight protective suits to the Mexican government.

The shipment, valued at about $54,000, was delivered Aug. 3 under a Northern Command program to help other nations respond to pandemics, chemical spills, natural disasters and other catastrophes.

Susan Reinert of the U.S. State Department says the suits are designed for light protection in such activities as flood cleanup or dealing with the swine flu.

Northern Command oversees the U.S. military’s homeland defense and supports civilian authorities. Its headquarters are at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs.
