DURANGO — A memorial service was held Saturday afternoon for a Durango dentist who was among 10 medical volunteers killed in Afghanistan Aug. 5. The service for 51-year-old Dr. Thomas Grams was at the Smiley Building Auditorium in Durango.

Grams gave up his practice about four years ago to help poor children in Afghanistan, India and Nepal. He will be buried in his hometown of Park Rapids, Minn.

The volunteers were murdered by Taliban fighters in the Parun valley.
