The Colorado Neurological Institute’s fall fundraiser will be a cover-upone that will have a whole bunch of important people taking cover behind masks.
It’s a masquerade ball, and while the husband-and-wife leadership team of Layne and Craig Fleishman aren’t expecting any scandals to unfold Oct. 1 at the Donald R. Seawell Grand Ballroom, they do anticipate plenty of intrigue. At least in the costume department.
“Be elegant, be creative,” Layne Fleishman advised as about 100 of CNI’s key backers gathered for a poolside reception the other evening at Don and Arlene Johnson’s Cherry Hills Village home. The Johnsons (he’s a longtime member of the CNI board) are honorary chairs of the gala.
This will be the 13th gala that CNI has hosted, and the goal, Fleishman said, is to top the $135,000 raised in 2009.
The black-tie event, Craig Fleishman added, will include cocktails, dinner, the presentation of the Dawn Denzer Community Leader Award to the MDC/Richmond American Homes Foundation, a live auction called by Doug Tisdale and dancing to the Jerry Barnett Orchestra.
Barnett was at the kickoff party, and shared that his entertainment company, which provided music for both the Johnson and Fleishman weddings, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.
Richmond American Homes president David Mandarich and his wife, Bonnie, who will accept the Dawn Denzer Award, also attended the kickoff and were accepting congratulations from such friends as Lucky Gallagher, chair of the CNI board, and her husband, Dr. Richard Stieg; LaFawn Biddle; Linda and Dr. Richard Kelley; Ginny and Louis Messina; Marge and Dr. Will Guard; Sue Goodin; Angela and Joe Alexis; Artemis Khadiwala; Martha Ward and Lydell Peterson; Stephanie Odak; Adrienne and Jack Fitzgibbons; Martha Kelce; Edie and Mort Marks; Steve Edmonds; and CNI’s chief executive, Luanne Williams.
