NEW YORK — “Where are you?” will be joining “What’s on your mind?” as Facebook users carrying smartphones will be able to notify friends of their whereabouts.
In a much-anticipated launch late Wednesday, Face book Places joined a growing number of services that let users find coupons, earn “merit badges” or simply share with friends where they are. It initially works through the site’s iPhone application; users will need to download a free update of the Facebook app. Owners of other gadgets can get the feature by visiting on their mobile Web browser.
