The long-closed Cuchara Mountain Resort has been acquired by a recreation district, and plans have been announced to develop the 225-acre ski area into a year-round resort.
For a decade, the ski area has been passed through a series of owners and legal challenges. Today, the Huerfano County Board of Commissioners will vote on the creation of a special district to operate the resort and issue bonds to fund the redevelopment that is estimated to cost $14 million.
Landowners and residents living within three miles of the resort will be notified about the district’s formation, and private contributions are being sought.
Proposed are a hotel, skiing and snowboarding improvements and other recreational facilities.
