The Aurora City Council on Friday interviewed five candidates for city manager behind closed doors, despite a request from the media to make the interviews open. The city contended under state law it could hold the interviews in executive session. The Colorado Press Association said the city was violating open-meetings law.
Friday afternoon, Mayor Ed Tauer said the City Council expects to narrow the field over the next week and a half and make public the names of the finalists. At that time, there will be opportunity for public input, he said.
Tauer said there likely will be more than one finalist. Aurora officials have not made public the names of the five candidates because, technically, they must do so only when the list of finalists is three or fewer.
