Emergency repairs to a bridge in Denver will cause lane closures on northbound Interstate 25 and Santa Fe Drive this weekend.

Concrete on the bridge deck has deteriorated and must be repaired before winter, according to a release from Colorado’s Department of Transportation.

Although this weekend’s repair will coincide with a Saturday night Bronco game, CDOT believes there will be less impact this weekend than over other game weekends or over Labor Day weekend.

Major delays are expected. CDOT recommends drivers use alternate routes avoiding the area.

Traffic will be impacted by:

— Single lane closures on northbound I-25 from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. each day.

— Double lane closures on northbound I-25 from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. each day.

— Lanes will be shifted on I-25 over Santa Fe, and speed limit will drop to 45 miles per hour

— All lanes of Santa Fe Drive will be closed under I-25 starting tonight at midnight until 6 a.m. Saturday

— Single lane closures each way on Santa Fe from 6 a.m. Saturday until 5 a.m. Monday

The northbound and southbound bridges over I-25 at Santa Fe, built in 1958 are two of Colorado’s bridges scored as “poor”, with ratings below 23 out of 100. A lower number equals a lower rating.

CDOT is in the process of designing a project to replace both bridges. If the project moves forward, construction could start in the summer of 2011, according to CDOT.

A seperate project will also close the ramp from 104th Avenue to I-25 from midnight Saturday until 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.

That project will also impact the ramp from northbound I-25 to 104th Avenue so that only right turns will be allowed from midnight Saturday until 5:30 p.m. on Sunday.
