An old-fashioned marriage proposal “lives on” in new media.

Brad Bankston, dressed in a button-up white shirt, chaps and a cowboy hat, and with his trusty horse by his side, got down on one knee and proposed to his girlfriend, Hannah Jonas of Littleton.

The proposal happened in June near Fredrick where Jonas was on a water-skiing vacation with family.

Jonas posted images of the proposal — including riding off with Bankston on horseback — on her Facebook page and she’s still hearing from friends and family about the Old West meets New West offer.

“It lives on!” Jonas said with a chuckle. “It was kind of fun to have pictures of the proposal. That’s why we put them up” online.

The couple met in 2006 while working at the Lost Valley Ranch near Deckers.

Now, Jonas works as a dental assistant and Bankston works at a garden center and hardware store in Centennial. Originally from Wichita, Kan., he still works with horses at a local boarding yard.

“We’re just busy planning and trying to figure out the marriage situation,” Jonas said. “Everything is moving right along — we didn’t know weddings cost so much.”

The big day is set for May 28, 2011.

There may be a bit of a Western theme for the wedding, Jonas said, but she’ll definitely ditch the bikini she was wearing when Bankston proposed.

“We’re going to go with a traditional wedding gown!”
