FORT COLLINS, Colo.—The strain of meningococcal bacteria that killed two people who played in a summer adult hockey league game in Fort Collins has sickened the child of a participant.

Larimer County health officials say the child went to an emergency room last week with a fever but is now home. They say the child, who wasn’t identified, never developed a life-threatening illness.

The state health department confirmed the child had the Group C strain of meningococcal bacteria, which killed the two hockey players who played in a game at the Edora Pool Ice Center on June 9. Health officials say the child’s parent participated in the game.

Another person at the game spent several days in a Montana hospital but is now home.
