DURANGO, Colo.—Authorities say a vehicle carrying a small amount of radioactive material in medical equipment caught fire in southwest Colorado, but investigators say it doesn’t appear any of the material escaped.
The vehicle caught fire Saturday on U.S. 550. The driver pulled over and got out unharmed.
San Juan County Sheriff’s Deputy Bruce Conrad says the amount of radioactive material was so small that the vehicle didn’t have to display a hazardous-materials placard.
The highway was closed for about an hour.
The cause of the fire hasn’t been determined.
