Fire crews from across Northern Colorado put out a 400-acre grass fire on private property in northern Larimer County Sunday afternoon, the county emergency services office said.

No evacuations were ordered in the sparsely populated area north of Livermore and south of the Wyoming state line near U.S. 287 and Red Mountain Road.

The Larimer County Sheriff’s Department noted, “400 acres in grass is a lot better than the same acreage in timber.”

The cause of the blaze is under investigation. It was reported shortly before noon.

Besides crews tackling the blaze on the ground, air tankers dropped several loads of fire retardant.
