Officials at the Aurora Animal Shelter are offering discounts on the price of cat and kitten adoptions to help deal with overpopulation at the facility.

The shelter, at 15750 E. 32nd Ave., is offering a 50 percent discount on all cat adoptions through Sept. 30. In addition, those who adopt a cat at the full price will be offered a second cat for free.

“Cat kennels in the Aurora Animal Shelter are teeming with cats,” said Kathy Cable, spokeswoman for the city of Aurora. “There’s a critical need to move these kittens and cats out of the shelter and into permanent homes.”

Cat populations typically spike during the warmer summer months, when the animals are in heat.

Kennels at the Aurora Animal Shelter are open from 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Call the shelter at 303-326-8280 for more information on the discounts.
