COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Officials say a man imprisoned for attempted murder and other charges has escaped from the Sterling Correctional Facility.
The Colorado Department of Corrections confirmed at 11:20 p.m. MDT Sunday that Douglas Alward escaped from the prison in Sterling, Colo, about 100 miles northeast of Denver.
Alward is serving a 20- to- 40-year sentence for convictions on charges of attempted murder, assault, burglary and kidnapping.
He is described as white with a shaved head, weighing 152 pounds, and 6-foot-1.
The department didn’t say how the escape occurred or provide any other information. But it warns that he should be considered dangerous.
