CAIRO — Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahma dinejad has offered friendship to the U.S. but also taunted Washington by saying he does not fear an attack because the U.S. could not even defeat a small army in Iraq, according to a TV interview aired Sunday.

President Barack Obama has offered to start a dialogue with Iran, but his staff says Iran chose international isolation instead. The countries are at odds over Iran’s nuclear program.

U.S. military chief Adm. Mike Mullen has said the U.S. has a plan to attack Iran, although he thinks such a strike is probably a bad idea. Still, he said, the risk of Iran developing a nuclear weapon is unacceptable.
