Rescuers are assessing if there are more options to find the body of rafting guide Kimberly Appelson, who has been missing since July 11.

Appelson, a 23-year-old Breckenridge resident formerly from Illinois, was off duty on the Arkansas River with friends when she was swept off a boat at the Frog Rock Rapids north of Buena Vista.

Last week, 65 rescuers from nine agencies made another massive search of the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area after reducing the flow of the river downstream to aid in the search, which had been suspended for weeks because of the fast flow.

The search has included divers, search dogs, underwater cameras, probing poles and technical rope systems, without success.

“The family is extremely thankful for our efforts to date and they understand how difficult the situation is,” Rob White, manager of the Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area, said in a statement.

“They would just like us to recover their daughter so that they can have closure.”

A memorial for Appelson was held in Naperville, Ill., on July 20.
