Aside from the obvious — each one raises money for a worthy cause — what do Behind the Curtain, the Pink-Tie Affair and Saturday Night Alive have in common?
They’re all being chaired by Sharon Magness Blake. With a big assist from her husband, attorney Ernie Blake.
Behind the Curtain, benefiting prostate cancer programs at the University of Colorado Hospital, is the new kid in town. The inaugural edition takes place Sept. 27 at Invesco Field and is a women-only event with food, drink and entertainment from the creators of “Girls Only,” the comedy show that ran for several years at Garner Galleria Theatre. Visit ; tickets start at $125.
The Pink-Tie Affair (303-367-1367) raises money for breast cancer research, education and services supported by the Denver affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure and will be held Nov. 6 at the Sheraton Denver Downtown.
Magness Blake, a breast cancer survivor herself, was introduced when the affiliate hosted a donor-recognition party at Roth Distributing. Guests enjoyed a cooking demo (and tasting) by Panzano chef Elise Wiggins and learned that the founder of Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Nancy Brinker, will be coming to town Oct. 3 to take part in the closing ceremony for Denver’s Race for the Cure.
Saturday Night Alive, signature fundraiser of the Denver Center Alliance, will be March 5. The headliner will be announced later, and it’s always someone good. Smokey Robinson did the honors this year; entertainers the caliber of Michael Buble, the Pointer Sisters, Frankie Valli, Bernadette Peters and the Four Tops have been here in previous years.
Magness Blake also is an adviser to Western Fantasy, the event she and Jean Galloway started for Volunteers of America, and co-chair, with Ed Greene and Jeff Thompson, of Men for the Cure, a dinner benefiting the Diane O’Connor Thompson Breast Center at University of Colorado Hospital.
