The parent of a kindergartner at Molholm Elementary School in Lakewood is facing charges after leaving a pistol in a backpack that a child took to school Wednesday.
A teacher was cleaning up and found the gun in the student’s backpack. The parent was not identified by Lakewood police but was arrested on suspicion of child abuse and possession of a weapon on school grounds.
The parent said the weapon was inadvertently stored in the backpack, Lakewood police spokeswoman Andrea Joo said.
