PIERRE, S.D.—A former Pierre man charged in a 2008 crash that killed a passenger and an unborn child is now facing drug charges.

Twenty-three-year-old Ross Big Eagle of Denver faces misdemeanor charges of possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana and ingesting.

A hearing is set for Sept. 7 to determine whether his bond will be revoked on vehicular homicide and other charges to which he has pleaded not guilty. He is to stand trial in January.

Court documents say Big Eagle was the driver in a one-vehicle crash on Oct. 31, 2008, in northern Hughes County. A 28-year-old passenger, Rex McClelland of Pierre, was killed. A female passenger was seriously injured and lost her unborn child.
