AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo.—A World War II bomber is performing a flyover at the Air Force Academy outside Colorado Springs.
The 69-year-old B-24A Liberator, owned by the Texas-based Commemorative Air Force, is scheduled to be over the academy at noon Wednesday.
The plane was built in 1941 by Consolidated Aircraft and was used primarily to carry cargo and dignitaries in the United States. It was also used to test refinements in the B-24 design.
The Commemorative Air Force bought the plane in 1969. Starting in 2006, it underwent an overhaul to restore it to its original configuration as a bomber.
The Commemorative Air Force operates more than 160 vintage aircraft.
