Colorado-based Furniture Row racing signed driver Regan Smith to an extension that will keep him in the No. 78 car through the 2012 NASCAR season, the team announced today.

Smith, the Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year in 2008, entered 20 races last year. The 26-year-old is slated to run a full schedule this year and each of the next two seasons.

“Regan is a young, talented driver with an outstanding future,” Furniture Row Racing GM Joe Garone said in a statement. “The contract extension does indeed express a serious commitment by both the race team and driver.”

“I am both happy and humbled about the contract extension,” Smith said in a statement. “Furniture Row Racing is a team on the move. I feel we’ve made some big gains this season and we are all encouraged about the future.”
