DENVER—A longtime Colorado hunting outfitter and a hunting guide indicted by a federal grand jury in Denver are accused of putting out hundreds of pounds of salt to lure deer and elk for their clients.

State and federal authorities say 69-year-old Dennis Eugene Rodebaugh of Meeker and 54-year-old Brian Douglas Kunz of Augusta, Wis., were indicted on charges of conspiracy and violating the Lacey Act, which targets illegal trafficking in wildlife and plants.

Authorities say Rodebaugh has run D&S Guide and Outfitter since 1988, offering deer and elk hunts in western Colorado’s White River National Forest. They say Kunz has worked seasonally as a guide for Rodebaugh since 1997.

Rodebaugh didn’t return a phone call Thursday to the Associated Press.
