FORT COLLINS, Colo.—Federal officials say a new lab in Fort Collins will support critical research on climate change, air quality, water and forest ecosystems.
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack joined Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter and Forest Service Chief Tom Tidwell Friday to formally open the new Forest Service Rocky Mountain Research Station. Vilsack says the research will help in the understanding and management of watersheds and forests for decades to come.
Federal stimulus funds helped pay for the $5.3 million lab. The 21,700-square-foot building was built to be energy efficient and meet national environmental standards.
The lab is next to the Colorado State University campus and will be used by students as well as Forest Service scientists and staff.
