DENVER—Republican gubernatorial candidate Dan Maes has won the endorsement of Colorado beer magnate Pete Coors, a former U.S. Senate candidate.

Coors said Friday that Maes will bring fresh leadership and a commitment to lower taxes and creating an environment to solve budget issues and create jobs.

Coors is chairman of the board for Molson Coors Brewing Co. and the University of Colorado Hospital Foundation.

Maes will face Democrat John Hickenlooper in November. Former GOP congressman Tom Tancredo is running for governor on the American Constitution Party.
