A Wal-Mart employee was hit on the head when he confronted shoplifting suspects last week in Jefferson County, knocking him face-first into a shopping cart, sending him to the ground and causing serious bodily injury.
Two men are in custody in the incident, and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is seeking help in finding two other men involved in the attack.
The incident took place at the Wal-Mart at 13420 W. Coal Mine Ave., when three alleged shoplifters left the garden center pushing a shopping cart containing stolen merchandise, according to Mark Techmeyer, spokesman for the Sheriff’s Office.
The Wal-Mart employee was attacked when he attempted to stop them.
Joe David Lucero, 34, and Jose Antonio Cruz, 19, were arrested. A third man who was in the store is still being sought, as is a fourth man who was driving the getaway car.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information about the third person seen in the store or the getaway driver to call the tip line at 303-271-5612.
