Cycling season doesn’t come to a close in the high-country Labor Day weekend, but the weekend is crammed with races.
For fat-tire racing enthusiasts, the Mountain States Cup Winter Park Pursuit rolls into the Grand County ski resort Friday through Monday. This race offers a last chance to get into gear for the Fall Classic, scheduled in Breckenridge on Sept. 10-12.
Endurance riders should set their sights on the 24 Hours of Leadville mountain bike race, a spinoff of the LT100, kicking off Saturday. Unlike in the LT100, individuals and teams will race to see how many laps they can ride on the 17.6-mile course (2,100 vertical feet per lap) in 24 hours.
Road-racing fans gear up for the Steamboat Stage Race beginning Friday. Registration still remains open for the four-day stage race, although categories are capped at 65 riders per division (only 40 juniors).
