FORT COLLINS — The battle to be Colorado State’s starting center is resolved. Junior Tyler McDermott will get the call Saturday against Colorado, backed up by redshirt freshman Weston Richburg, who is slated to start at guard.

CSU’s two-deep depth chart was announced Monday afternoon.

“Richburg is a very talented redshirt freshman,” CSU coach Steve Fairchild said. “‘Asking him to be a full-time center probably isn’t the right thing at this point.”

Another position with good competition throughout the Rams’ preseason camp was defensive end, where Fairchild has tabbed sophomores Davis Burl (a converted linebacker) and Broderick Sargent to start.

True freshman quarterback Pete Thomas will make his first collegiate appearance in Denver against the Buffs.

As for a comment by CU coach Dan Hawkins during the Big 12 media teleconference Monday that the Buffs wouldn’t necessarily try to fluster a quarterback in his first college game, Fairchild just laughed.

“You always want to pressure a young quarterback,” the CSU coach said.

Ticket talk.

CSU has 2,100 tickets remaining in its allotment for Saturday’s game.
