• Last playoff appearance: 2009, lost 25-8 to Norwood in quarterfinals.

• Players to watch: Rob Adams, Sr., QB-LB, 6-2, 175; Jacob Bonser, So., C-NT, 6-2, 306; Nick Bonser, Sr., RB-DB, 6-0, 170; Andrew DelaCruz, Sr., RB-DB, 5-9, 145; Matt Taylor, Sr., E-DE, 6-5, 170.
• In 2010: The sense is there that they know they have to work hard, and Adams is the right leader for the Buffaloes. “They know it’s going to be a challenge,” said McGatlin, who purchased new helmets and shoulder pads to insure they stay as healthy as possible.
SIMLA CUBS
• Coach: Shane Zimmerman

• In 2010: The Cubs know it’s going to e a dogfight just to get into the top four spots in this league, “and that’s a good thing,” Zimmerman said. That said, they are right in the mix of a deeply talented league.
STRATTON EAGLES

• In 2010: The Eagles, as usual, have the toughest nonleague schedule (Merino, Granada and Elbert) in the state and need to stay healthy to improve on last years quirky losing record. “It all depends on how quickly we gel, and if we can get on a roll,” Gottman said.
EAST CONFERENCE (BLACK FOREST DIVISION)
ELBERT BULLDOGS
• Coach: Shawn Graves
• 2009 record: 9-3

KIOWA INDIANS

• Returning starters: Five offense; six defense.

ROCKY MOUNTAIN LUTHERAN EAGLES
• Coach: Mike Schaefer
• 2009 record: 5-3
• Returning starters: Five offense; five defense.
• Last playoff appearance: 2009, lost 81-14 to Caliche in division crossover.
• Strengths: Transfers bolster a pretty heavy line-up that includes eight freshmen.

• In 2010: Many coaches believe the Buffaloes are the team to beat this season. We would tend to agree, but would also like to see them proove it.
DAYSPRING CHRISTIAN EAGLES

• Returning starters: Four offense; four defense.
• Last playoff appearance: 2009, lost 60-14 to Merino in state championship game.

• In 2010: “We are so young, it’s hard to predict wat is going to happen,” Holmes said. If they show up, and they usually do, the Eagles are again legit title contenders.
HAXTUN FIGHTIN’ BULLDOGS
• Coach: Dave Shafer
• 2009 record: 0-8
• Returning starters: Four offense; four defense.
• Last playoff appearance: 2008.
• Strengths: “It’s hard to tell right now,” said Shafer, whose strong armed quarterback has the passing game becoming a bigger threat.
• Weaknesses: Youth.
• Players to watch: Trenton Ham, Sr., QB-DB, 5-9, 150; John Vance, Sr., E-DB, 6-1, 185.
• In 2010: “We have nowhere to go but up,” Shafer said. “We are a little bigger, a little stronger and a little faster.” Strange to say for a Haxtun program that has experienced so much success over the years, but winning some games would be a big deal.
LONGMONT CHRISTIAN WARRIORS

• 2009 record: 4-6
• Returning starters: Six offense; five defense.
• Last playoff appearance: 2009, lost 38-0 to Norwood in first round.

• In 2010: The Warriors have taken their lumps in the Plains, but they’ve also earned the respect of the other powerhouses in the league. They will be right back in the playoff hunt.
MERINO RAMS
• Coach: Marlan Tramp
• 2009 record: 13-0
• Returning starters: One offense; one defense.
• Last playoff appearance: 2009, beat Dayspring Christian 60-14 in championship game.
• Strengths: That always tough Merino work ethic; especially on defense.
• Weaknesses: On the field experience.
• Players to watch: Coach Tramp did not want to single out any of his players.
• In 2010: Coach Tramp, who takes over for a retired John Barber, was on the old staff and well aware of what the Rams are capable of. Sandbagging is an art here, and while the numbers say they are rebulding; it is widely known that the Rams just reload. Another championship is not out of the question, but the gap has closed.
SEDGWICK COUNTY COUGARS
• Coach: Dave Rice
• 2009 record: 1-7

• In 2010: Another proud program in this league that has fallen on hard times . . . see Haxtun. “We would like to think we can get back to the playoffs and then go from there,” Rice said. Will have to beat both Longmont Chr. and Haxtun to do so.
NORTH CONFERENCE (CENTRAL DIVISION)
GILPIN COUNTY EAGLES

• Weaknesses: Youthful in the skill positions.
• Players to watch: Michael Barngrover, Jr., OL-LB, 6-0, 170; Kevin Robertson, Jr., QB-DB, 6-1, 160.
• In 2010: Witzel, a Stratton grad, is devoted to the a program that is 16 years removed from its last playoff appearance. The Eagles have good numbers in the junior high ranks, so one would believe that wins are not to far off.
JUSTICE PHOENIX
• Coach: T.J. Cole
• 2009 record: 6-2
• Returning starters: Six offense; six defense.
• Last playoff appearance: 2009, lost 31-28 to Longmont Christian in division crossover.

• In 2010: “It’s the little thing you do over the summer, that you hope translate to Saturday’s,” Cole said. The last second field goal loss to Longmont Christian, after winning the Central Division, has inspired the Phoenix to work harder. A tougher league will make it harder for the Cole and the Phoenix to defend.
NORTH PARK WILDCATS
• Coach: Toby Sanchez
• 2009 record: 1-7
• Returning starters: Four offense; five defense
• Last playoff appearance: 2008
• Strengths: “I wish I had one,” joked Sanchez, who has a three-year starter at quarterback.
• Weaknesses: Wideouts are first year guys and their are only 12 guys on the roster.
• Players to watch: Cale Burdick, Sr., C-NT, 6-2, 220; Brant Lytle, Sr., QB-LB, 6-2, 180; Sergio Rivera, Sr., RB-LB, 6-0, 200.

VAIL CHRISTIAN SAINTS
• Coach: Tim Pierson
• 2009 record: 4-5
• Returning starters: Four offense; three defense
• Last playoff appearance: 2009, lost 38-0 to Merino in division crossover.
• Strengths: Defensive backfield is strong and the Saints have plenty of youthful talent.
• Weaknesses: With just 15 kids out, depth is an issue as is an all sophomore backfield.
• Players to watch: James Currey, Sr., OL-DL, 6-1, 190; Teller Emmer, Sr., E-DB, 5-8, 140; Granger Moch, Sr., E-DB, 6-0, 155.
• In 2010: “I don’t know if we are quite ready to compete for a league title,” Pierson said. “But we are talented enough to go out and compete and surprise some people.”

• In 2010: Brown had little trouble convincing the Kremmling community that the move to 8-man was a good thing. Getting back to being competitive is certain and according to Brown’s lofty goals, “We want to win’em all and get back to being competitive.” The Mustangs are a league favorite.
SOUTH CONFERENCE (ARKANSAS VALLEY DIVISION)

• In 2010: “We really worked on our attitude and the atmosphere and I think we are going in the right direction,” Hodgson said. “If the breaks go out way, we can make a run.” The Wildcats have the skill position players to rival anyone in the state, finding the proper people to block for them is pivotal.
MCCLAVE CARDINALS
• Coach: Shawn Randel
• 2009 record: 1-7

• Coach: Ronny Tate
• 2009 record: 7-2
• Returning starters: Four offense; four defense
• Last playoff appearance: 2009, lost 45-16 to Swink in division crossover
• Strengths: Speed to burn.
• Weaknesses: Rebuilding an offensive line with some young and inexperienced players.
• Players to watch: Coach Tate never singles out his players.
• In 2010: As dangerous a team as there is in 8-man football. But they have to remain healthy. Last year, key injuries turned the then No. 3-ranked Eagles from a 7-0 powerhouse into a team that didn’t even make the playoffs.
WILEY PANTHERS
• Coach: Dave Eastin
• 2009 record: 0-8
• Returning starters:Four offense; four defense

• In 2010: The Roberts injury in Game 1 last year was probably both a blessing and a curse for the Farmers. This is a good team for sure.
MANZANOLA BOBCATS
• Coach:James Lopez
• 2009 record:2-6

• Last playoff appearance: 2005
