The 15th-ranked Colorado State volleyball team played its first nationally ranked opponent of the season Saturday night and lost 25-22, 25-19, 25-27, 25-21 to the No. 6 Florida Gators in Gainesville.

Florida football fans at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium across the street poured into the O’Connell Center after the Gators played their football season opener against Miami (Ohio).

“Florida is a good, physical team. They were a good opponent for us to go up against,” CSU coach Tom Hilbert said. “We were fairly even statistically, but Florida simply outdefended us.”

Senior Jacque Davisson led the Rams with a team- high 19 kills.

“This match showed us if we play our best, we can beat a team at this level,” Hilbert said.
