For a guy who’s been playing in the shadow of Carlos Gonzalez, Troy Tulowitzki sure is having a big year. Tulo, who may yet challenge CarGo for the NL batting title, had two doubles, as did Gonzalez. That left them tied for the team lead with 28 apiece. Now for the fine print: Tulowitzki has 366 at-bats, 127 fewer than Gonzalez. Tulowitzki is on pace for 34 doubles, which would be one more than his career high.
Rogers rises to occasion.
Esmil Rogers came on in the seventh to face David Eckstein with the bases loaded. It wasn’t the type of situation Rogers has thrived in, witness his .382 batting average allowed with runners in scoring position. But this time Rogers unleashed a two-strike breaking ball in the dirt that fooled Eckstein so badly, he simply threw his bat at it.
Fine feathered friend.
Not sure if he made bad investments or what, but, yes, that was your father’s San Diego Chicken parading around the field in the middle innings.
